How it Feels to Float by Helena Fox

Biz seems to be a normal teenager on surface, but beneath it all, she’s not sure. She’s confused about her identity, her place in the world, who to trust and talk to, and she’s not sure how to hang on.

This is a stunning YA book that challenges the reader to look at a character who is struggling. Biz is complex and can’t find the words to explain herself to herself or to others. She needs to find her path, but it’s really hard. It’s a tough book in many ways, but one that I think many YA lovers will engage with and maybe relate to.

How It Feels to Float was shortlisted for the Victorian Premier’s Award Prize for Writing for Young Adults 2020.
