Opal Hopper lives in a future world with advanced virtual reality. She goes to high school, is into code and games, and so when a contest is mounted by WAVE, the company who kind of run everything, she decides to win it in the hope that when she wins the prize, a meeting with the billionaire founder, she will discover the truth about her father’s disappearance.

Overall, the basic plot is relatively standard for a YA dystopian novel. But this is a really special book. I loved the characters, particularly Opal, but I felt really drawn into the world. I loved the arenas where the virtual reality took place and the way they worked. I’d highly recommend this for lovers of YA sci fi.
